Center for Family Health Initiative and Christian Aid Developed a robust advocacy and community engagement strategies, along with tailored monitoring and evaluation plans, to address the contextual challenges of community-based health services delivery in rural and hard-to-reach communities in Nigeria.

Under the CDC PEPFAR-sponsored SUSTAIN Project, CFHI provided care and support to vulnerable children in AMAC, enrolling 3,096 children and strengthening community-based child protection, education, health, nutrition and referral services. The project also established child-friendly spaces, caregivers’ forums, kiddies’ clubs and community protection structures.
Also in Bwari Area Council, CFHI implemented a large-scale Community HIV Testing and Counselling programme using its door-to-door model. The initiative reached 207,547 residents through 953 community outreaches across more than 47 communities, identifying and successfully linking 432 newly diagnosed HIV-positive individuals to care and treatment services.

Through the Positive Action for Children Fund (PACF)-funded the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Empowernment project for Young People and Positive Mothers (HAPPY!), CFHI strengthened HIV prevention by increasing demand for HIV Testing and Counselling, promoting male involvement in antenatal care, improving PMTCT service uptake, and addressing stigma and barriers to HIV/STI services.

CFHI implemented a US Consulate General Small Grant project to reduce gender discrimination and poverty among women and youth in Ngor Okpala, Imo State, through advocacy, community engagement, and empowerment initiatives targeting harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and harmful widowhood practices.

The aim of the catalysing accountability for maternal deaths programme of the Giving Birth in Nigeria campaign was to develop, test and implement novel approaches that incorporated community voice in maternal death reporting and surveillance, with a view toward making all maternal deaths count.
