On 28th of September 2021, CFHI team led by the Executive Director, Krystal Anyanwu met with National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) officials led by the Ag. Director, Tina Ugwu. The meeting was necessitated by the increasing reports of rape cases CFHI has received from the Kabusa and Gishiri communities in Abuja Municipal Area Council to the organisation. According to the Executive Director, CFHI, “…It pains my heart each time CFHI legal unit receives report of rape cases”.
The meeting had both organizations discussing new strategies to curb the high rate of rape cases in Kabusa and Gishiri communities in Abuja. One of the strategies highlighted is the need for sensitization. According to the Executive Director, CFHI, “…I believe that the first line of prevention is education. Educating the community on their rights will empower them to speak up when such ugly incidents occur.”
In response, the team from NAPTIP showed all willingness to partner with CFHI during the sensitization and awareness creation at the two communities and went as far as sharing the contact of their rapid response team to enable the organization get faster response to rape cases.
Rape is a crime against humanity that affects the overall wellbeing of the victims and to end violence against women and girls in our communities, our collaborative effort is needed.
