CFHI participated in a virtual training session on Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) for caseworkers involved in vulnerability needs assessment and pre-evaluation data collection, a vital part of the IHVN Emergency Food Relief Project.

The IHVN Emergency Food Relief Project focuses on addressing food insecurity among vulnerable populations.

As one of the implementing partners of the Diabetes Awareness and Care Project Phase 2, CFHI participated in a three-day training session at the Gold Crown Hotel in Owerri, Imo State. The session focused on empowering healthcare providers to effectively support individuals aged 18 and above, including pregnant women, in managing and preventing diabetes.

Together, we aim to combat the increasing burden of diabetes and foster healthier futures for all.

The Day of the African Child is a day set to honor the strength, resilience, and potential of Africa’s youth. This day serves as a reminder of the courage shown by those who fought for equal education in Soweto in 1976. We must commit to supporting the education, health, and rights of every African child.

To commemorate the Day of the African Child, the Centre for Family Health Initiative (CFHI) visited Junior Day Secondary School in Jiwa. The event featured a series of activities, including drama presentations, a quiz competition, and cultural dances representing various ethnic groups. Over 60 people attended, and the winners of the quiz competition were awarded school bags and dozens of books each.

Commemorating World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024: Empowering Girls and Promoting Health

To mark the 2024 World Menstrual Hygiene Day, CFHI in collaboration with Dr. Ifeanyi Nsofor, Supportive Edge Foundation, RealRelief, and the Ministry of Women Affairs, distributed over 60 reusable menstrual pads (Safepad) to vulnerable girls in various communities. This initiative enables girls to manage their periods with dignity, reduces school absenteeism, and prevents the use of unsafe or unhygienic alternatives that can lead to infections and other health issues.

By providing these reusable pads, we are not only promoting gender equality by allowing girls to participate equally in educational and social opportunities, but we are also easing the financial burden on families. Additionally, CFHI raised awareness about menstrual health and hygiene, empowering both girls and boys with knowledge and dispelling misconceptions associated with menstruation. This fosters a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.

CFHI attended the first quarter meeting of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Menstrual Health Management convened to address crucial issues pertaining menstrual health.

The meeting was held at the Conference hall of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, and marked a significant step in promoting menstrual equity and accessing menstrual products in Nigeria.

Discussions, aimed at strategizing for the upcoming Menstrual Health and Hygiene Day in 2024 and outlining actionable plans for the subsequent quarters of the year.

Earlier today, CFHI, stepped out for a TB-free future walk with IHVN, Federal Ministry of Health, National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme, USAID and Global Health Fund in a bid to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day, 2024.

To commemorate World AIDS Day 2023, the Mandate of the Social Development Secretariat FCT (HIV/AIDS) unit hosted an Income Generation Activity (IGA) and Skill Acquisition Empowerment program. During this event, CFHI beneficiaries (2 Adolescents and 3 Caregivers) were empowered with grinding machines, sewing machines, and a popcorn machine.
CFHI also participated in the World AIDS Day Road Show alongside NACA Nigeria, Hope for the Vulnerable Initiative, Daisy Oak Foundation, Gem Hub Initiative, and the Federal Ministry of Health to mark the day. Condoms and HIV self-test kits were distributed. Following this, an oral HIV self-testing service was provided, allowing people to get tested and know their status.
